There is an honesty about John Mayer’s Still Feel Like Your Man that needs to be appreciated. He was full of himself when the decade started and entered a widely-publicized relationship with Katy Perry. To have it all turnaround and admit that he screwed up is never easy.
He has the ability (and the courage) to put into song feelings we can’t describe or are afraid to own up to. The subject matter is depressingly heartbreaking. Not to worry, the tempo and his voice give it an upbeat treatment that springs of hope.
It has been some time since Room for Squares. And even today, John Mayer continues to be at the top of his game. It had to be tempting to employ other writers to mix things up but he never caved in to the pressure.
